The main goal of my research is to improve the safety, mobility, and operation of roadways by leveraging advanced statistical and artificial intelligence-based tools and techniques.

Greetings! Welcome to My Website

I am working as a Senior Transportation Engineer at AtkinsRéalis in the Austin office. I earned a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from the University of Wyoming (UW) in 2021 with a thesis focusing on the application of Big-Data Analytics and Machine Learning to develop trajectory-Level event detection systems and investigate driver behavior. Earlier, I received M.Sc. in Civil Engineering from the same university in 2018 and completed B.Sc. in Civil Engineering from the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), Dhaka, Bangladesh in 2014. The main goal of my research is to improve the safety, mobility, and operation of roadways by leveraging advanced statistical and artificial intelligence-based tools and techniques. To achieve my research goals, I developed several weather detection models, including a novel Machine Learning-based detection algorithm named “RoadweatherNet”, capable of detecting real-time trajectory level weather and road surface conditions in real-time. The proposed methods are cost-effective, do not require a lot of technical support, and only need a single video camera mounted on the dashboard of a moving vehicle.

I am an experienced researcher in the field of transportation engineering with a focus on roadway safety, roadway design and operation, naturalistic driving, driver behavior, big data analytics, neural networks, data mining, machine learning, and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS). I have more than 8 years of research experience in the field of Transportation Engineering and conducted various research projects and delivered technical assistance to several clients including the US DOTs, FHWA, and the Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT). I have published several peer-reviewed articles in prestigious journals, including Accident Analysis and Prevention, Journal of Intelligent Transportation Systems, Journal of Transportation Safety and Security, and Transportation Research Record. I am an active reviewer of several Transportation Engineering journals, such as Accident Analysis and Prevention, Transportation Research Record (TRR), Journal of Transportation Safety and Security, Case Studies on Transport Policy, and International Journal of Transportation Science and Technology. I am also a friend of several TRB committees, including Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Computing Applications (AED50), Road Weather (AKR50), Statistical Method (AED60), and Winter Maintenance (AKR40).

I presented my research works in lectern and poster presentations at several TRB Annual Meetings, which is a prestigious and well-recognized conference in the field of transportation engineering. I was honored to present three posters at the 100th TRB Annual Meeting that took place in January 2021. I was selected to present my dissertation in Doctoral Student Research in Transportation Safety-Hybrid Session under TRB committees on Safety Data, Analysis and Evaluation (ANB20), and Statistical Methods (ABJ80) at the 99th TRB Annual Meeting. I was also nominated to present my research to the general audience in a Three-Minute Thesis Competition Workshop organized by the TRB Operations and Preservation Group of Young Member Council (OPG YMC) at the 99th TRB Annual Meeting. Besides TRB, I presented my works at several other prestigious conferences in the transportation engineering field, including Road Safety and Simulation (RSS).
